The Town of South Congaree wants and needs its businesses in order to survive. We want to be a business friendly community. We also want all business owners to understand that we have a responsibility to our community to regulate businesses in such a way that they integrate well into our community. In order to ensure this, we have town ordinances that require businesses to be safe, reasonably kept, and doing business in a orderly and neighborly fashion. Therefore, the Town of South Congaree requires every business that operates within the town's incorporated limits to have a BUSINESS LICENSE. These are good until the end of the town's fiscal year on June 31st. ALL BUSINESS LICENCES issued after January 1 are prorated. The phrase every business includes contractors working on jobs within the town's limits, retail sales establishments, service businesses like garages and maid services, lawn and yard services, well and pump repairs, owners of rental properties, restaurants, door-to-door sale representatives, and even independent contractors that work and receive an IRS form 1099 annually for the work they perform may need a BUSINESS LICENSE if they work inside the Town of South Congaree. This is a partial list provided as an example only. There are some exemption available and these are explained in the ordinance. Transferring a business from one person to another may void the business' license. In an situation like that, the new owner would need to get a new business license in their name. There are fines for performing work in the town without a business license. It's very simple to find out if you need a business license.
