Fellow Citizens of South Congaree:
THANK YOU to everyone who came out and volunteered to pick up litter on a very cold, brisk Saturday morning last week. This was the second Team Up 2 Cleanup South Congaree, and it was a bigger success than the first! Twenty-one volunteers picked up over 50 bags of litter from SC-302, Pine Street, and Ramblin Road. What a fresh, clean appearance to our town when our streets are free from debris and trash! Plans call for the next “Cleanup” to be in early April with a cookout to follow for all volunteers.
We are fortunate to have two new police officers, and I want to personally welcome Officer Sharpe and Officer Walker! Not only did Officer Sharpe assist with our Cleanup this past Saturday, he is working on an Adopt-A-Highway Agreement with Keep the Midlands Beautiful. Keep an eye out for beautiful new Adopt-A-Highway signs to be posted on SC-302 soon!
I am very pleased to announce that your Council has employed a new Municipal Clerk. Mrs. Sharon Williams has accepted our offer of employment. She will begin on Monday, March 15, 2021. We have worked tirelessly to secure someone who will grow with our town, who will provide superior customer service to our citizens, and who will project the professional image that our town deserves. Welcome, Mrs. Williams!
The Town of South Congaree will hold our first Red Cross Community Blood Drive on March 25, 2021! The drive will be held from 2 PM until 7 PM at the Town Hall facility at 119 West Berry Road. The American Red Cross receives fewer blood donations during the winter months and with the addition of COVID-19, the need is greater than ever. Volunteers are needed to assist with this event (i.e., Temp Taker, Registration, Canteen, Sanitize). Red Cross staff will instruct volunteers and provide masks and gloves throughout the drive. To volunteer, call the Town Hall at 803-755-2760. Also, feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
March is proving to be a busy month for our town. We are excited to welcome the South Congaree Bar W Rodeo Bull Bash! The award-winning Bull Bash will be held on March 26 and 27 at the Equestrian Arena located at 395 Oak Street. This event was cancelled last year due to the pandemic, but I am excited to promote the family Sport of Professional Rodeo this year. Tickets are on sale now at Town Hall, or you can purchase online at www.southcongareerodeo.com.
I have been asked to serve on the Advisory Board for the Greater Cayce – West Columbia Chamber & Visitors Center, and I am very honored to serve. For many years Cayce, West Columbia, and Springdale have held seats on the Advisory Board. I want to thank Mr. Tim James, President & CEO of the Chamber, as well as the Chamber’s Board, for giving our town the opportunity to join this group. Serving on this Advisory Board will provide the opportunity to speak on behalf of our town businesses and other town interests. I will take this appointment seriously, and I pledge to represent the Town of South Congaree in a professional and dignified manner. For more information about the Chamber, visit https://www.cwcchamber.com.
To stay informed about town happenings, we welcome and encourage you to attend our Town Council meetings. The Town Council meets monthly on the third Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Work Sessions are held prior to Council Meetings on the second Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. Regularly scheduled meetings are also livestreamed via Facebook.
Let’s continue working together to make South Congaree the best small town in South Carolina!
Cindy Campbell, Mayor
